Geneseo Police Dept. to host bike rodeo
July 14, 2013 by TheLCN staff
The Geneseo Police Department and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County will conduct a ?Bicycle Rodeo? during the Geneseo Summer Recreation Program. The rodeo is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18 in Highland Park, and will include a helmet-fitting session.
The Police Department reminds people that when you ride your bicycle or in-line skate on New York State roads, you are required to follow the same laws as motor vehicle drivers. All people between the ages of 1 and 14 years old are required to wear a certified bicycle helmet when bicycling, in-line skating or operating a non-motorized scooter or skateboarding in New York State. But a helmet will not protect you if it doesn?t fit properly or is not used correctly.
Also, children younger than 1 year old are not allowed to ride as passengers on bicycles.
The rodeo is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a grant from the New York State Governor?s Traffic Safety Committee.
